Salford Council launches low cost funeral service

Salford City Council recently launched an affordable funeral service, which it claims will be £1,500 cheaper than the national average. The council took action after the Salford Fair Funerals Campaign and Salford Citizens Advice called on councillors to do more to tackle funeral poverty.

The new services is the latest in a growing trend among local authorities. In August, Halton Borough Council in Merseyside launched a similar service. Gateshead Council introduced its own funeral directors firm in June and Brent London Borough Council launched a funeral service in 2017.
