SAIF members recommended to confirm mourner numbers

Who is at fault if the number number of mourners exceeds the government guidelines or is too high for a venue to be COVID secure?

SAIF has heard reports of crematoria stating that funeral directors are liable to be fined in these cases. We recommend that SAIF members ask clients to sign a form to confirm:

• they have been advised of the number of mourners allowed at the particular venue
• the number of mourners
• they will provide contact details of the mourners to a health service testing and tracking system if necessary

Having a clear documented trail that the client has been advised of the numbers will help avoid potential problems. Members may use their own form or adapt the form available on the Members’ Secure area.
