Ground-breaking research on suicide published

At the SAIF Education Day in 2018, Dr Sharon McDonnell shared news of ground-breaking research on suicide. The study went on to capture the accounts of more than 7,000 people who have been affected by someone taking their own life in the UK and its findings have been published this week.

Led by the University of Manchester in collaboration with the Support After Suicide Partnership, the research revealed a very poignant, personal and often devastating picture of the impact of suicide on the lives of individuals, families, colleagues and professionals.

Additionally, the report builds a case for issuing a challenge to society, governments, employers and other stakeholders to improve the support available to those left behind and to take action to save more lives. The research can be viewed here and SAIF members are strongly encouraged to take a look.
