Increase in cremation costs

A new report by the Cremation Society highlights the soaring cost of cremation services at council-run sites. With prices ranging from £392 to £960, costs have risen by nearly a fifth since 2015.

Belfast currently has the lowest fee of £364 but private sector cremations can rise to £1,070.

Between 2010 and 2015 cremation prices rose by a third across 170 local councils. According to the Local Government Association, council fees are mostly reinvested in cemeteries and crematoria.
