Funeral guidance in Scotland changes from 2nd November

The Scottish Government has updated its three main guidance documents for the funeral industry to account for the new system of local protection levels, introduced from today, 2nd November.

The documents can be viewed here and include:

  • funeral director guidance
  • funeral services guidance
  • burial and cremation authorities guidance

Scotland’s Strategic Framework sets out the different levels of restrictions that can apply.  The levels are likely to vary for different parts of the country.  In-person attendance at funeral services should continue to be kept to as few people as possible and will be subject to physical distancing and wider public health measures.

To note that under levels 1-4 funeral restrictions remain as they have been. Only under level 0 are numbers at funerals allowed to increase and then a cap remains in place, set at a maximum of 50 people. Caps are for both indoor and outdoor funerals.
