Framework for disposal of the dead

Modernising the legal framework for disposal of the dead is among the projects announced last month by the Law Commission of England and Wales. The Commission has set out its 13th Programme of Law Reform – a list of 14 projects which the Government has a “serious intention” to reform – and among them is a project entitled ‘A Modern Framework for the Disposal of the Dead’.

SAIF has a seat on the Burial and Cemeteries Advisory Group of the Ministry of Justice, and will keep you advised of prospective reforms that should improve the legal and documentary process. Sir David Bean, the Law Commission’s Chair, said: “Although we are operating in uncertain times, I am confident that our independence and ability to build consensus will help ensure that Parliament can take forward law reform in these areas.”
