Data Protection Essentials from the ICO

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is hosting a free live demonstration of Data Protection Essentials on Tuesday 17 November, 11am to 11.30am.

Data Protection Essentials is a free online training and self-assessment programme designed for eligible small and medium-sized organisations and sole traders. It includes 13 bite-sized modules, practical guidance and a self-assessment to help organisations strengthen how they handle personal information.

The demonstration will show the programme in action and explain how it can support everyday data protection practices. Both new and existing Data Protection Essentials users are welcome to attend.

Please note that Data Protection Essentials is a training and self-assessment programme. It isn’t an accredited certification scheme or confirmation that an organisation complies with data protection law.

Why complete Data Protection Essentials?

The programme provides practical guidance to help organisations:

  • strengthen their everyday data protection practices
  • protect people and their information
  • identify and address potential risks
  • handle personal information confidently and responsibly

Participants can also earn digital certificates after completing the training. Organisations that complete the self-assessment can receive an organisational certificate and choose to appear on the Data Protection Essentials public register.
