History of SAIF
SAIF was established in 1989 to support independent, mostly family owned funeral directors, concerned about the proliferation of larger conglomerates.
Many within the profession wanted to distance themselves from the aggressive acquisition and marketing techniques widely employed by national chains that they felt were giving the funeral industry a bad name.
Instead, funeral directors wanted a trade organisation that would uphold the highest of values and offer reassurance and comfort to members of the public.
Since our formation we have gone from strength to strength – representing the funeral profession at all levels of Government and becoming an established voice within the industry.
We have stringent conditions for membership, which includes demonstrating a sound trading history and suitable premises, while all members must adhere to a strict Code of Practice.
We will continue to ensure the views of our members are heard and provide a leading voice in helping develop a funeral profession that is fit for the challenges of the 21st Century.
