‘Ransomware’ Advice for SAIF Members
May 26, 2017 // No CommentsThe government’s National Security Cyber Centre (NSCC) has provided guidance for small businesses on reducing the likelihood of being held to ransom by WannaCry or other types of ransomware. Wikipedia describes ransomware as ‘a type of malicious software that blocks access to the victim’s data or threatens to publish or delete it until a ransom is paid.’
NSCC recommends these three steps businesses should do to protect themselves:
1. Update Windows
2. Run antivirus
3. Keep a safe backup of your important files
Full information on these steps may be found on the NSCC website here and more general information on avoiding cyber crime is available here on the government’s Cyber Aware website.
