SAIF Executive Terry Tennens and National President Paul Allcock enjoyed a busy visit to Belfast at the end of November.  They met with Phillip Logan MLA, the new Chairman of the All Party Political Group on Funerals and Bereavement and son of an independent family funeral director. At the meeting they discussed the affordability of funerals and the unprecedented rise in third party costs for funeral directors.

Paul and Terry were honoured to mete Gavin Robinson, representative for East Belfast who led a debate in the House of Commons about the social fund payment and highlighting the plight of low-income families who can’t afford a funeral.

The visit also included a meeting with The Northern Ireland Department of Communities (equivalent to Westminster’s Department for Work and Pensions). At this meeting they discussed the support of SAIF members for the first Fair Funerals Pledge and informed members that many members already include pricing information on their websites.

More than twenty SAIF members attended the Belfast Regional Meeting which covered a range of concerns plus an update from SAIFCharter.
