E-learning guide from HMRC to paying your employers

Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC) have created a new e-learning guide to ‘Paying your workers the minimum wage’. HMRC wants to make sure employers understand their responsibilities – who can get the minimum wage, what counts as working time, how much to pay and what happens if workers aren’t paid correctly.  The interactive guide is flexible and easy to use – broken down into short sections so you can work through it at your own pace.

It’s a criminal offence for employers to not pay someone the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage, or to fake payment records. But paying at least the minimum wage is good for your business. A survey found that 8 out of 10 people “would not use the services of a business if they found it paid less than National Minimum Wage”.  And businesses that pay the right rates see more productive staff too; 8 in every 10 people admit to “not working as hard” if they are underpaid.
