ITV documentary on funerals this evening

Terry Tennens, Chief Executive of SAIF, commented:

“As you may be aware, ITV is planning to run a documentary at 7.30 pm this evening on the funeral industry. SAIF, along with the NAFD and other industry bodies, was invited to take part and I spent three hours being interviewed for the programme.   We have since learnt the documentary will not be using any of the footage of either myself or the representative from the NAFD, instead preferring to use our comments as written statements on the screen.

“Needless to say, this is very disappointing and I have made our concerns known to the production company in question. Unfortunately, we have no influence over how they edit the programme. Although they have promised a fair and balanced piece, I will reserve judgement until the documentary has aired.

“As your representative, it is important for SAIF to be involved at a national level and ensure our voice is heard.  The funeral industry is all too often an easy target for the media and we are working hard to promote a positive image. Independent, family run funeral directors such as yourselves provide a valuable and unrivalled service to their communities and it’s vital this message is conveyed to members of the public.”
