Scam warnings from SAIF

May 23, 2016   //   No Comments

SAIF has received several calls from members recently regarding scams.  Alison of JE Nicholson in Chesterfield advised us of a scam concerning a funeral plans company apparently called GSL.  Alison said that a caller telephoned her father pretending that he had taken out one of their funeral plans.  When he told them that he was a funeral director and wouldn’t have taken a plan with another company, the caller became very rude.  The company could also be calling members of the public, who are more vulnerable.

Two members have contacted us about a Captain Cockerill (!) who is supposedly at sea and his wife has died.  This captain may be in Georgia or Nigeria, depending on the call.  Needless to say, if you’re contacted by Captain Cockerill, end the call as quickly as possible.

We have several links to provide further information about scams, which you may access here.
