Bereavement payments challenged by MPs

The BBC has reported that a number of MPs have challenged the government on why benefits for bereavement are limited to married people and those in civil partnerships.  Each year, an estimated 7,000 newly-bereaved partners receive nothing in bereavement benefits when their partner dies, as they are not married.
