SAIF Scotland Update on Burial and Cremation (Scotland) BillOctober 12, 2015 // No Comments
SAIF Scotland have received an update from Dr Simon Cuthbert-Kerr, Burial & Cremation Bill Team Leader.
“The Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Bill and accompanying documents introduced to the Scottish Parliament last week may be read here.
The lead committee for the Bill will be the Health and Sport Committee, with particular parts scrutinised by the Local Government and Regeneration Committee. We do not yet know dates for the various parts of the process, but we will share these with you when we know them.
As previously indicated, the Scottish Parliament will issue a call for evidence – this is typically done through the Scottish Parliament’s website. We will notify you when the call for evidence is issued, but please be aware that we do not have any involvement in who is invited to give evidence to a committee.
Thank you for the information you have provided so far, which you will hopefully see reflected in the Bill itself, as well as the accompanying documents. As the Bill progresses through the Scottish Parliament we are likely to need more information, particularly about potential costs of any inspection regime and licensing scheme that might be introduced in the future. The Parliament is likely to have significant interest in the likely costs associated with the Bill, and while the estimates in the Financial Memorandum are comprehensive, any further work that can be done to refine them will be useful. There are likely to be other issues which arise from the Parliament’s scrutiny”.
