Smoking in company vehicles

September 23, 2015   //   No Comments

SAIF has recently received enquiries concerning smoke free vehicles.

On our Member’s area, there is a bulletin called ‘Smoking at Work: The Law.”  This document gives current information from the government’s website relating to keeping work places smoke free and penalties for breaches of the requirements.  With regard to smoking in company vehicles, the law states:

Smoking isn’t allowed in any work vehicle that more than one person uses, eg:

  • taxis
  • buses
  • vans
  • goods vehicles used by more than one driver
  • company cars used by more than one employee

A worker can smoke in a company car that only they use if their employer agrees.

SAIF Members may read the bulletin here, but need to login first.
