Employers have a duty to protect staff from violence

According to the HSE statistics in March 2015 over 1% of workers were victims of workplace violence during 2013/2014.

The law states that as employers, you have a duty to protect your staff from such violence through two pieces of legislation as highlighted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.  Collectively these require you to consider the risks and take appropriate steps to avoid.  A template on how to protect your staff, which also covers lone working, may be found on the Members’ area on the Human Resources page.   You’ll need to login first here.
