Increase staff awareness of Health and Safety
Occupational health issues were pushed to the fore during 2014 with Health and Safety Executive inspections concentrating on dust, fumes, noise etc. In fact a two year campaign was launched in December 2014 to help employers understand what they should be doing to prevent occupational cancer.
If your staff are exposed in any way to carcinogenic substances, you should be able to demonstrate that you are taking reasonable steps to manage risks. Failure to do so could result in enforcement action. We therefore recommend that you increase awareness of Health and Safety requirements to your staff that your risk assessment provides details of appropriate precautions, e.g extraction fans are in good working order and personal protective clothing is used. You may find out more information on the HSE’s website.
