Child Funeral Charity Accepting Requests from October 2014October 21, 2014 // No Comments
The Child Funeral Charity was launched at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire on 23rd July this year. From October the charity will be accepting requests for help and funeral directors may refer families to the charity.
Child Funeral Charity (CFC) assists families financially in England and Wales who have to arrange a funeral for a baby or child aged 16 or under. Whilst many funeral directors, the clergy and most celebrants do not charge fees, there are other funeral related expenses that bereaved parents struggle to find. Financial support is available from us to help with such funeral costs, together with practical advice and guidance. CFC will take referrals and applications for financial support from professionals who have knowledge of the bereaved family and their circumstances. Funeral directors are among the professionals who are able to refer a request.
Over the summer months everyone has been extremely busy fundraising and whilst contacting suppliers, CFD has been amazed at the generosity shown, with many goods and services offered at “cost price” and, in some cases for free, all of which will enable the charity’s funds to be allocated more widely.
Roger Gale, CEO, said: “Over the last few months it has been heart-warming to receive so many pledges of support from the funeral profession, emotional to receive donations from members of the public with their own story to tell, and enlightening to receive encouragement from the health, care and bereavement specialists. We need that all to continue.”
He went on to say: “The level of commitment from Funeral Directors to provide professional services, at no charge, to this group is truly amazing. In addition, most will provide a car and a simple coffin and CFC appreciates this. However, we know that there are other charges which the Funeral Directors cannot cover and that is where we can help.”
The CFC says that the earlier in the process an application for financial assistance is received, the more help the charity can offer. The straightforward two-page referral application form on the CFC website is easy to complete and can be emailed to email@example.com. This will be acted on and responded to with 48 hours.
Whilst the CFC is greatly appreciative of the support so far, there is still a need for more support, financially and practically, to ensure sustainability over the long term.
