SAIF is serving more (and more) independentsSeptember 17, 2014 // No Comments
725 full members, 1260 funeral homes, 51 applications pending. Proof, if needed, that Independent Funeral Directors realise the value of belonging to a trade association that aims to ‘promote & protect the independent’.
In producing these figures, I wish to acknowledge the excellent work of Georgia Henney for her tireless work as Membership Development Manager (now National MDM). There has been great value in having the resource to meet prospective members and explain in detail the numerous benefits of membership of SAIF. It is also of benefit to receive feedback from independent funeral directors on why they have not joined before and, in some cases, joined and left membership but are now returning to the fold.
Pleasingly some of the positive remarks are not about the benefits we provide, for example, the level of insurance cover, availability of telephone helplines, even the obvious plus of being a SAIFCHARTER member, but it is the readily available advice and, quite often, solutions we can recommend to a problem experienced in the day to day running of their business. We are fortunate to have four dedicated and hardworking staff at SAIF Business Centre. Linda Jones has been at the helm for many, many years thus gaining a broad knowledge of the funeral profession.
Angela Camp joined eighteen months ago and has excelled with her work on the continual development of the SAIF website and administering our hugely successful regional meeting programme. Corinne Pengelly has offered sterling support to Georgia (and now Sandeep and Jenna) in dealing with the vast number of enquiries and ensuring each applicant meets the strict criteria of membership, arranging premises inspections and scrutinising all paperwork. Corinne also looks after all Standards issues. Samantha Reynolds keeps our Quality Assurance programme up to date, this year administering over 400 visits by our team to ensure members are maintaining the required standard. Very soon each will be involved in the busy period of membership renewal. The Executive Committee is recommending a 2.5% increase this year and this will be voted on at the Special General Meeting on September 20th.
