Immunisations for funeral staffAugust 7, 2014 // No Comments
The question arose recently in the SAIF Business Centre about which immunisations funeral professionals should have.
For anyone working with the deceased, it’s recommended but not essential that immunisation against the following diseases is obtained.
Tetanus: three injections followed by a booster every 10 years
Tuberculosis: primary infection as a child should give adequate protection through adult life. If concerned, a skin test by the GP is required to test current immune status.
Poliomyelitis: primary course of drops in the mouth on three separate occasions is usually done in childhood, with a booster recommended every 10 years.
Hepatitis B: this protection is essential and the three dose immunisation may be obtained from the GP, for which a prescription charge is payable.
Hepatitis A: a two dose protection is available which lasts for 10 years.
