Affected by a Debt Relief Order? Send SAIF your experiences.

SAIF Business Centre has been contacted by The Insolvency Service, which is conducting a review of Debt Relief Orders (DRO).

Minister Jo Swinson has this week launched a Call for Evidence covering debt relief orders and the creditor petition limit in bankruptcy, with a view to providing improved help for the financially vulnerable.  Introduced in 2009, debt relief orders (DROs) provide low cost debt relief to those with low levels of debt and no ability to pay off this debt.  Over 140,000 people have already benefitted from a DRO.

SAIF complained to The Insolvency Service in November 2013 that several funeral director member were unable to recover funeral costs in cases where a DRO had been applied, as this type of expense is a qualifying debt for the purpose of a DRO.  The review announced this week will consider all aspects of the DRO so this is an opportunity to put across our case.

SAIF needs your help

If your funeral business has been affected by a case involving a DRO, we need to hear your experiences.  Please contact Linda Jones at SAIF Business Centre on 0845 230 6777 by 30th September. Thank you.
