Do first aiders need refresher training?

July 18, 2014   //   No Comments

Although strongly recommended, there has never been a specific requirement for an annual refresher training course under the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

The guidance version 2013, that refresher training should last for ‘at least three hours’, has been removed. This recommendation for formal refresher training applies to all trained first-aiders, even those who undertook the one day emergency first aid at work course.

How do you determine whether your first aider needs a refresher course?  Simply ask them and if they feel a little unsure, or more importantly, if you do not feel confident of their ability, simply book them onto a refresher course. Better to be safe than sorry. For more details please go to the HSE website.  The following link takes you to their First Aid at Work leaflet: www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg214.pdf

SAIF Business Centre will be running a first aid course on 26th September.  Watch this space for further details.
