Hugely successful SAIF meeting in DurhamJune 5, 2014 // No Comments
A record number of local funeral directors and associate members gathered at the Ramside Hall Hotel in Durham for the North East regional meeting on the evening of 30th April.
Introducing the evening SAIF’s Executive Chairman, Alun Tucker, welcomed those present and introduced National President Mark Woollard and the evening’s guest speaker Alan Cox. Mark addressed the audience giving an insight onto his funeral career and his work for SAIF over a number of years and, of course, his bee keeping exploits. Mark also introduced his chosen charity, CRISIS, which provides much needed support for homeless people.
Alun Tucker followed making members aware of matters he and SAIF were working on in looking after the interests of members, these included the Death Certification Reform Bill, the work of the Financial Conduct Authority and Direct Funerals. After questions, Alun introduced Alan Cox, a Bereavement Volunteer for CRUSE, and a counsellor with his own private practice.
Alan gave an interesting account of his work and offered some advice as to how funeral directors could help the bereaved and also how to deal with stressful situations in our own lives. Following an enjoyable two course meal, Martin Coia updated members on events at Golden Charter.
Associate members Colourful Coffins, Oak Technology, I-Netco, the Much Loved Charitable Trust, Eulogica and ACS Clothing Ltd gave a brief resume of their products and services. During the evening £153 was raised for CRISIS with a ‘Guess the Mileage’ competition, which was won by Glen Miller of Glen Miller Boldon Funeral Services. Included in the prize was a jar of the President’s award winning Mount Ephraim honey.
With such an excellent attendance and a number of local funeral directors having membership applications pending, SAIF is very much alive and kicking in the North East.
