Department for Work and Pensions – Employer News – 4 April 2014

Small and medium employers are being urged by the Pensions Regulator to find out when their new workplace pensions duties begin, after recent research showed many have yet to check when automatic enrolment will affect their business.

The first workers were automatically enrolled into pension schemes in 2012 starting with the largest employers, and the duties will extend to the smallest firms and new employers by 2018. More than 10,000 employers of all types from charities to supermarkets, hospitals to football clubs have now automatically enrolled their workers.

The Pensions Regulator website has more information including a free planning tool to help employers, or find out your staging date using their staging date calculator.  You will need your tax reference code to use the online tool at: http://www.thepensionsregulator.gov.uk/employers/tools/staging-date.aspx.
