SAIF President

Paul Bowley was installed as National President of SAIF at our AGM in March 2017.  Paul started out from school as an apprentice professional footballer playing with several teams before moving back home to Brighton to work in the building trade.  His 37 years in the funeral profession began in 1980 when he took a job as a coffin maker working on elm and oak coffins. In 1990 he was promoted to funeral director at F Davey which was taken over five times by big conglomerates.  In 1999 he joined forces with Pat and Sandy Gallagher and opened up Bowley Funeral Service. In 2016 Bowley & Gallagher was opened in his home town of Brighton.  Paul was approached in 2010 about joining the SAIF Executive and was later asked to take up the challenge of President, which he will do to the best of his ability.

Paul has been a member of the Rotary organisation for the last 26 years serving the local community and international projects. He was President in 2009 and was awarded the Paul Harris Award. His family includes his partner Davina, two sons, four grandchildren and Davina’s two daughters, three grandchildren and a great grandson.

President’s Charity of the Year

Paul has chosen The British Heart Foundation (BHF) as his charity of the year, a charity very close to his own heart, following a heart attack in 2015.   BHF are the nation’s heart charity and the largest independent funder of cardiovascular research.  Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer but BHF are leading the fight against it.  Their pioneering research has helped to transform the lives of people living with heart and circulatory conditions.

Paul will be fundraising through various activities and events during the year, including all of the Regional Meetings.  If you’re thinking of taking part in a sponsored event, could you consider fundraising on behalf of Paul’s charity?
